How to Apply FESTfloor Microcement: A Step-by-Step Guide:
If you're looking to create a seamless, modern finish for your floors, walls, or countertops, FESTfloor's microcement is the perfect solution. In this guide, we'll walk you through the application process to ensure a professional result every time. Whether you're a DIY enthusiast or a seasoned contractor, this step-by-step method will help you achieve that sleek, polished surface.
You will need :
- Trowel
- Mixing container
- Orbital or Floor sander
- Vacuum cleaner , Electronic mixer with paddle
- PPE equipment ( respirator mask, googles, gloves, ect)
- Surface protection, masking tape
Step 1: Prepare the Surface.
Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and smooth. Any cracks or imperfections should be repaired prior to applying microcement. Apply a FESTgrunt primer to create an even base and enhance adhesion. Then wait approximately 2 hours.
If your substrate does not require reinforcement, skip Step 2 and proceed to Step 3.
Step 2: If your substrate requires reinforcement, use FestKontakt or FESTfloor Baza “ base” and fibreglass mesh. Wait 2h-4h until dry. Then sand the substrate with e.g. 60-grit paper and vacuum.
Step 3: Mix required amount of FESTliquid with measured FESTcolor pigment throughly and then combine with FESTpowder (usually 1 part liquid polymer to 2.5 parts of powder). Mix thoroughly until you reach a smooth, lump-free consistency. Allow the mixture to rest for a couple of minutes before application.
Step 4: First Coat Application.
Using a trowel, apply a thin, even layer of microcement. Work in small sections to ensure control over the material. Spread the product with broad, smooth movements, keeping the trowel at a consistent angle. Allow the first coat to dry for 2-3 hours (depending on temperature, humidity, etc).
Step 5: Sand down. Ideally with a diamond disc 100-grit and then clean off very well with a vacuum. Apply a second coat of microcement in the same manner as the first. This coat will refine the finish and add durability.
Step 6: Sealing the Surface.
Once the second coat is fully dry, apply PU FEST 2K or PU FEST Turbo to protect the surface from moisture, staining, and wear.
Sealer application: Mix PU FEST 2K ( or PU FEST Turbo ) component A with component B according to instructions and use a roller to spread it over the microcement surface, in order to protect it.
With FESTfloor microcement, you can transform any space into a modern masterpiece. Follow these steps carefully, and you'll achieve a durable, aesthetically pleasing finish that will last for years to come.
